Celebrity News: SAG Awards top honors TV and movie stars



The train rolled Hollywood awards this week after the celebrity news pages were filled with the latest target for annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) honors. Usually, the stars were in force to support the event, which recognizes, through television and film presentations in the past 12 months.

A glittering ceremony held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, the celebrity gossip columns furious debate over style choices of nominees and star guests. Two of the highest honors within the walls of the room, however, went to a predominantly British film. King's speech is now applause left right and center at the moment and has scooped 12 nominations for Academy Awards this year. The film took the gong for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a movie at the SAG awards, as well as raising the Actor in a Leading Role category of Colin Firth.

In the first category, the hit film Black Swan Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell The Fighter, Lisa Cholodenko The Kids Are Alright, and David Fincher Social Network - all of which movies are listed as a potential winner s best picture Oscar this year.

Best Actress Award went to Natalie Portman for her role as Nina Sayers Black Swan. Portman plays a young dancer of success that leads to a journey into the darkest depths of your imagination in its quest for the perfect execution. She could also pick up an Oscar for the same film if the votes go their way on Sunday 27. Honors went to support Christian Bale and Melissa Leo in The Wrestler.

Slots in primetime television is gained for Boardwalk Empire (Drama Ensemble), Modern Family (Comedy) Steve Buscemi (Actor: Drama - Boardwalk Empire), Julianna Margulies (Female Actor: Drama - The Good Wife), Alec Baldwin (Actor, Comedy - 30 Rock) and Betty White (Actress: Comedy - Hot in Cleveland). TV movie / miniseries victories went to Al Pacino (Actor - You Do not Know Jack) and Clare Danes (Actor Female - Temple Grandin). Finally, rewards for tricks was a box office success of Christopher Nolan, Inception hit film and television section, the real drama vampire blood was selected for the praise.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards were established in its current format in 1995 and are now one of the biggest industry events of the year, considered by many as one of the key indicators for the BAFTA and the Oscars that follow in February. SAG is itself the largest union in U.S. representing working actors and established in 1933.
